Outdoor Activities for Seniors at V!VA as Ontario Reopens
Published on July 10, 2020
As the province slowly gears up to reopen public spaces and non-essential businesses, people are understandably concerned about what the new normal will look like, particularly for retirement homes in Ontario. In June, Premier Doug Ford, along with his staff of medical advisors, announced that “we can now allow families to reunite with their loved ones safely and in person with strict public health measures to protect residents, visitors and staff”. But what exactly does that mean for individual retirement communities?
For many of them who currently have no cases of COVID-19, it means reinstating outdoor activities for seniors in a safe and healthy manner. Here are some of the positive changes we’re making at V!VA Retirement Communities to get our senior Community Members moving again.
Allowing Family Members to Visit
As per the premier’s announcement, family members are now allowed to visit their loved ones at their retirement communities. However, there are strict guidelines that must be followed by individuals and the retirement communities to ensure the health and safety of everyone.
To qualify for visitation, the following things need to happen:
Communities must be totally free of COVID-19
Retirement communities must have strict health and safety protocols in place
Health and safety protocols must be clearly communicated to family members and visitors of residents
Physical distancing guidelines must be followed at all times
All visitors must sanitize their hands and wear face coverings at all times
Visitors must also pass active screening including temperature checks before entering the premises
Visitors must confirm that they’ve tested negative for COVID-19 over the past two weeks
V!VA Retirement Communities is doing everything in our power to ensure that all visitor-resident interactions are completely safe and in compliance with Ontario’s health and safety standards.
Enjoying Coffee and Lunch Outside
As long as all of the above-mentioned guidelines are met, Community Members are no longer confined to enjoying a meal or a drink in their suites. Community Members can now dine in the dining room and enjoy social outings with family and friends.
Outdoor Concerts and Entertainment
At V!VA Retirement Communities, senior safety is our top priority. We want our Community Members to enjoy their day, but we also want them to stay healthy and reduce the risk of transmission during the pandemic. Community Members can now enjoy fun in the sun outdoor activities with their families including outdoor concerts and other forms of entertainment while following physical distancing protocols.
